Types of Half- and Full-Body Puppets

Puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling, which dates back over 3,000 years. Early string-operated and rod-manipulated figures were used for play, entertainment, and rituals. The Iliad and the Odyssey, two ancient Greek epics, were performed in puppet theaters.

Puppets are a source of entertainment and education. Whether using finger and hand puppets, marionettes, or half- and full-body puppets, in a formal or casual setting, the art of animation captures the imagination. Half- and full-body puppets have moving mouths, removable clothing, and removable rods to allow for one- and two-hand operation. Half- and full-body puppets are featured as play-pals, animals, and professionals such as firemen, doctors, nurses, and policemen.

Unleash the illusion
Half-body puppets can take the form of fantasy characters, heroes, moms, dads, grandparents, cheerleaders, construction workers - the possibilities are endless. By sewing pants or a skirt on a half-body puppet, it gives the illusion of being full-bodied. Half-body puppets are about 15 inches tall, easily manipulated, and intended for children ages three and up. Full-body puppets are about 28 inches tall. They are recommended for ages seven and up, since more skill is necessary to control the puppet's movements.

Even the tiniest world becomes a stage and imagination is unleashed when puppets come to life with identity, voice, and personality to demonstrate, inspire, and reassure all in the name of fun. Clothing accessories (some complete with wigs) afford a single puppet multiple identities. Some puppets have optional accessory kits that feature a series of scripts for the puppeteer and optional CDs with the dialogue prerecorded.
